So did you catch the game last night?
Last night, G and I threw our annual* Super Bowl Potluck. I love the Super Bowl. Which is hilarious because I’m not a big football fan whatsoever. I grew up in Connecticut, where we don’t have a single professional sports team (RIP Hartford Whalers). I’m not ashamed to say that I watch the Super Bowl exclusively for the commercials and the half time show. So color me surprised when the game was my favorite part of the night. I love a good “underdog” story, and getting to watch the Eagles win their first Super Bowl ever while the Patriots put up a really good fight, was incredible. So incredible, I found myself, jumping up and gleefully cheering when Brady dropped the ball.
While the game was good, I was pretty disappointed in the the half-time show. Compared to Lady Gaga’s incredible ode to “weird” America and celebration of LGBTIA rights, Queen Bee’s epic performance(s), and of course, Katy Perry’s Left Shark, JTs performance felt a bit tone-deaf bordering on cultural appropriation. I like JT, but I didn’t appreciate his controversial “nod” to Super Bowl 2004 #JanetJacksonAppreciationDay or the Prince hologram. Also, yikes, what was up with his shirt?
Half time aside, the commercials really delivered this year. And they should deliver when companies pay over $5 million for a 30 second of airtime! I was actually impressed by the variety and diversity of many of the ads. I thought I’d take a break from Monday afternoon work to share my favorite ads. Let me know what your favorites were in the comments below.
Happy Monday.

As a product manager, who spends WAAAAYYY too much time thinking about marketing strategies. This ad was LIT. Turning every ad into a a tide-ad was genius. Major Props!
*By annual, last year I had planned on throwing my first Super Bowl potluck party but only ended up inviting my best friend T. Honestly, it was one of my favorite parties of the year.
